  2. 1/2 kg basmati rice
  3. 2 large onions
  4. 2 large tomatoes
  5. 2 tbsp lemon juice
  6. 1/2 cup yoghurt
  7. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  8. 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  9. 1 tbsp coriander powder
  10. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  11. 1/2 tsp whole spice powder
  12. 1 tbsp qasoori methi
  13. 3-4 green chillies
  14. Pinch food color
  15. 2 tbsp fried onions
  16. to taste Salt
  17. as needed Oil

Instructions to make to make Aloo dum biryani

  1. Wash rice and soak in water for 1/2 hr
  2. Than boil rice in water with 1 tbsp of salt. When rice cooked but a little hard than drain all the water and keep a side
  3. In the mean time take a wok and heat oil than add cumin seeds
  4. In the mean time chopped onions and add into oil and sautay till pink to light brown
  5. Now add all dry spices red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric, whole spices qasoori meethi and salt. Mix well for 1 minute
  6. Now add chopped tomatoes and mix. Cook till they become soft
  7. Add green chillies
  8. Cook till oil seperated from masala
  9. Add ginger garlic paste and cook again
  10. Add yoghurt and cook till oil seperated again from masala
  11. Add potatoes and keep on low flame after covering the lid. Cook till potatoes become tender
  12. Add lemon juice, mix and keep masala a side. Turn off heat
  13. Now layer boil rice first in a big vessel
  14. Than add potato mixture
  15. Than add rest of rice on potato mixtute
  16. Add yellow food color and fried onions on top.
  17. Cover the lid and keep on simmer for 15 minutes. (Drizzle water if needed for keeping rice on dum) Biryani is ready to serve. Mix and take out in serving dish and enjoy with your family with raita or salad
